Des Moines,IA - May 6, 2023 - The highly anticipated annual hackathon event, dsmHack Charity Hackathon, concluded today, bringing together technology professionals from across Iowa to collaborate on projects for seven selected nonprofits. Over the intense 48-hour event, teams showcased their skills, creativity, and dedication to addressing pressing challenges faced by these organizations, resulting in remarkable accomplishments.

The Des Moines Children's Museum project focused on a comprehensive redesign of the museum's website, introducing a seamless platform for managing data and ensuring up-to-date information. The enhanced website now provides easy access to vital details, including renting the museum space for private events and facilitating donations.

The Des Moines Music Coalition project centered around a full refresh of the DMMC website, with a particular focus on effectively presenting the organization's mission and major projects. By reworking the website, the team ensured greater accessibility for nonprofit staff to update and maintain the platform in the future.

The Dream Team Des Moines project involved building an application that streamlines the check-in process, allowing riders to conveniently check in from their phones, even in areas with low cell service. This offline-enabled app enhances the organization of rides and ensures accurate participant tracking throughout the journey.

The FOCUSS Inc. project included developing a modern and responsive website, enhancing user experience and accessibility. Additionally, they implemented an automated crisis hotline process, ensuring timely support for individuals in need. The website now showcases board members, facilitating the grant writing process and furthering the organization's objectives.

The iJAG (Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduate) team created an interactive map showcasing the school districts and schools where iJAG operates, providing visual representation of their reach and impact. Furthermore, the redesign of their website has resulted in a refreshed design and improved mobile optimization.

The Nancy’s Place team successfully converted an extensive 80-page PDF of resources, programs, and partner organizations into an interactive website. This user-friendly platform allows individuals and families to access vital information, while enabling Nancy's Place staff to effortlessly update and maintain the website.

The Science Center of Iowa team developed an interactive web application. Caregivers can now enhance their child's experience at the center by utilizing thoughtful questions, additional learning resources, and QR codes connecting exhibits to digital content. The app immerses visitors in an educational journey, offering a digitized scavenger hunt experience.
