dsmHack 2016

Date: March 3-5, 2016

Location: Gravitate, Downtown Des Moines

The 2016 hack was our largest yet (including an eager waitlist!), with 10 nonprofits selected from a pool of 33 worthy applications. Projects included new websites, databases, eCommerce sites, branding, mobile applications, etc. for a variety of nonprofit causes.

Our 2016 selected nonprofits included:

animal-rescue-league youth-tribe-logoyoga     roosculturaldistrictipr

The hack event kicked off Thursday evening with a brief explanation from each charity outlining their technology need. Participants then met with charity representatives, choose a project they felt drawn to, and immediately started working on problem solving. Work continued throughout the evening and into Friday and Saturday, concluding with a presentation of projects at 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening.

This exciting event brought nonprofits and local tech pros together in an energetic environment to tear down technology barriers, learn something new, and make Des Moines shine brighter together. Websites were created, eCommerce sites spun up, mobile apps developed and more! We even had a quick yoga refresher session led by Yoga for First Responders, enough food and drinks to sustain our small army, and a swag modeling shoot for Iowa Public Radio. We made sure there was a balance of fun and work for all!
