Hack postponed to June 2-4, 2022

The dsmHack annual charity hackathon, originally scheduled for late March 2022, is still on but will be postponed until June 2-4, 2022 due to high COVID counts in Polk County and forecasted numbers through winter.

Traditionally, a springtime hackathon has been an ideal time, avoiding a lot of the conflicts that participants tend to have as we enter the summer months. However, as we look at the data from the past year, and with new developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that our best option is to postpone a bit.

Our goals, as it relates to the safety of our attendees, are twofold: reduce the likelihood of the virus spreading at our event, and reduce the likelihood of the virus entering our event at all. We can work toward the first goal by taking a number of precautions at the event, including masking, rethinking food service, and limiting capacity. To achieve the second goal we adopted a vaccination requirement and are now adjusting our event date to coincide with likely lower case counts in the community.

This extension also allows more time for nonprofit organizations to submit their applications with the goal of having amazing projects to work on during the hack. Mark your calendars for the new dates

March 10 - Nonprofit Q&A
April 12 - Volunteer Registration Opening
April 29 - Nonprofit Application Deadline
June 2-4 - dsmHack at West48

We are grateful for the ongoing support from the community and look forward to an amazing hack! We will continue to keep you updated as we work towards the 2022 Hackathon.
